Dr Karunaharan (MBChB, MSc, MRCGP) qualified from Manchester Medical School and is one of the first Doctors from the UK to obtain a Masters in Space Studies from the International Space University.   He has also attended the revision course for the Diploma in Aviation Medicine (UK Royal College of Physicians) and is a member of the Aerospace Medical Association and Space Medical Association.

Dr Karunaharan has completed a full surgical rotation as part of his Neurosurgical training and has worked on both sides of the Atlantic.  He has also worked in the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital and the Royal National Throat, Nose and ear Hospital.  His experience in both fields is invaluable in assessing and advising pilots.  During this period he also flew both rotor and fixed wing aircraft as a hobby.

Following a Masters Scholarship from the European Space Agency, he realigned his career and began to study Aerospace Medicine.  After completing research at NASA Johnson Space Centre, Houston, he returned to the UK and worked at the CAA Aeromedical Centre at Gatwick.  Here he performed most of the JAA Class 1 Initial Medicals from Europe, and since then has continued to do private aviation medicals.
